RANT #2: RAT ON A WHEEL
Ever seen a rat on a wheel? You know — one of those little treadmills they put in mouse houses to keep the poor caged buggers active. They go round and round and round and never actually go anywhere.

ArttMann feels like that sometimes. Why? Because in today’s world, the tools change constantly, the job changes constantly, the pressures mount — and there’s no stopping it. Once you get on the wheel you can’t get off. Period. Unless you want to commit career suicide. And ArttMann can’t afford to let that happen! Today, every working graphic artist must be conversant in all the popular programs, if not an expert in them.

For ArttMann, this includes such programs as Photoshop/Imageready, Illustrator, Quark Xpress, Painter, GoLive (of course) and many others, including “small” utility programs for discrete tasks. It’s nigh-on to overwhelming.

So, now you know why artists sometimes appear like they’re about to melt down, flameout and lose it, all at once! Have pity, please! [:-o]
